Kandris Seal Conversion Update: Wizard Manacles

The conversion of the magic sections for The Kandris Seal are where the greatest amount of work will have to be done, and it’s coming along well. The Fate Core system leaves things so wide open and flexible that it works very well for the setting, but at the same time, we want to make sure the players and GM get a good feel for how magic works. And that’s where our effort is currently being focused – converting all the examples from the original book into Fate Core.

Here’s an example of a partial conversion – things still need to be worked out, but we think we’re on the right track:

Wizard’s Manacles
Aspect: Tainted Magic Suppressor
These bindings are used by followers of the Keepers against anyone with magical abilities, especially members of the Thaumaturgia. Once the manacles are placed on the target, a Taint skill roll must be made against the mage’s Arcana skill. If the Taint roll succeeds, the I am Restrained by Taint aspect is placed on the nearer of the manacles. If the roll is a tie, the aspect is placed but fate points must be spent to invoke it. If the roll succeeds with style, he gets two free invokes of the aspect.

The Kandris Seal Fate Core Edition

With the announcement of Fate Core (and its Kickstarter campaign), we’ve decided to publish a Fate Core version of The Kandris Seal and all it’s supplements. The conversion work has been started using the beta version provided to backers of the Kickstarter campaign, but TKS Fate Core will be released April 2013, once we’re sure what the licensing requirements are.

Steam, Savants and the Kandris Seal Update

Clockwork CyborgSavants, Steam and the Kandris Seal has now entered the final stages of layout, and artwork is coming in. We managed to get the services of Storm Kerr for this project, and you’ll see an example of his work to the left of this text. Click on the thumbnail to see a larger version of the picture.

We don’t have a firm date for the release of the d20 (3.5 e) version of the book, but it should be out by Gen Con in both pdf and hopefully print format.

Stay tuned for further developments.
